Murchison falls National Park
Uganda’s Power and Wildlife Spectacle
Located in northern Uganda along the mighty Nile River, Murchison Falls National Park spans 3,840 km² of savannah, woodland, and riverine landscapes. The park is famous for the dramatic Murchison Falls, where the Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge, plunging 43 meters in a spectacular display of nature’s power.
Murchison is a wildlife lover’s paradise. Elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, and a rich variety of antelope roam the park, while the Nile’s waters are alive with fish and birdlife, including kingfishers, herons, and fish eagles. Game drives, boat safaris, and guided walks offer endless opportunities to see these incredible species up close.
The falls themselves are a highlight. A boat trip to the base lets visitors experience the thundering water and mist up close, while hiking trails to the top provide panoramic views over the Nile and surrounding savannah. Murchison’s combination of dramatic scenery and abundant wildlife makes it a photographer’s dream.
Best visited during the dry seasons (December–February and June–September) for easier access and optimal wildlife sightings, Murchison Falls is open year-round. Its location, roughly 5–6 hours from Kampala, makes it ideal for a multi-day safari or as part of Uganda’s northern safari circuit.
With its towering falls, rich wildlife, and scenic Nile vistas, Murchison Falls National Park delivers a thrilling safari adventure in one of Uganda’s most iconic natural landscapes.
